How to Book a Kayak Rental in Cape Coral: Reservations, Delivery and What to Expect

By Justin Lammers, owner of Grab N Go Kayaks and creator of the KayakDIY YouTube channel

Last updated: October 13, 2026

Quick answer: Yes, reserve ahead for weekends and busy season, though last-minute availability is sometimes possible if you text (605) 760-4448. Use the rental request form or call or text with your kayak choice, dates and delivery address. We bring the kayak to your dock or seawall in Cape Coral or Fort Myers and pick it up when you are done.

Most kayak rentals in Southwest Florida work like a rental counter. You drive somewhere, sign something, load a boat on your car and hope the line is short. Ours works the other way around. You send us a message, and a kayak shows up at the seawall behind your rental house.

That changes the booking question. You are not asking “will there be a kayak left when I walk in,” you are asking “will there be a kayak on my dock for the dates I want.” The honest answer is that reserving ahead makes the second question easy, and this guide walks through exactly how to do it.

I am Justin, and I run Grab N Go Kayaks out of Cape Coral. When I deliver to a canal home in southwest Cape, the first thing I look at is the water, the seawall and where the kayak will sit. That is the same thing you should think about before you book, and it is what most of this page is about.

In this guide

Do you need a reservation for a kayak rental in Cape Coral?

For us, yes, a reservation is the way to do it, and the sooner the better for weekends and busy season. We deliver. That means a kayak has to be set aside, rigged with the right gear and put on the schedule before it goes out. There is no storefront with a rack of boats waiting on a walk-up basis.

That said, we are a small outfit and plans change. If you land in Cape Coral on a Thursday and decide you want a kayak on Friday, text us. Last-minute availability is sometimes possible, and a text costs nothing. The number is (605) 760-4448, and you can call or text.

Other kinds of rental work differently, which is part of the confusion online. A seasonal city program, a marina counter or a guided tour may take walk-ups or require online booking on their own terms. Always check with those operators directly. For our delivery rentals, here is the short rule:

  • Weekends, holidays and winter: book ahead.
  • Weekdays and slower weeks: a day or two of notice is often enough, but text us to check.
  • Same day: text first. Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

How far ahead to book, by season

Southwest Florida has a strong seasonal rhythm. Visitors arrive in numbers when the Midwest and Northeast get cold, and the water is at its most pleasant. This is a guide, not a policy, but it matches how the calendar tends to run. For the month-by-month detail, see our guide to the best time to kayak in Cape Coral.

Time of year What it is like Booking advice
Winter and early spring (roughly January through April) Peak snowbird and visitor season. Mild temperatures, drier air, the busiest weekends of the year, and holiday weeks in particular. Book as soon as your dates are firm, especially for weekends, holiday weeks and spring break.
Late fall and late spring (roughly October, November and May) Shoulder season. Fewer crowds, warm water, steadier schedule. A few days of notice is usually comfortable. Weekends still fill, so book ahead for those.
Summer (roughly June through September) Hot, humid, afternoon thunderstorms are common. Early mornings and evenings are the best paddling windows. Atlantic hurricane season runs from June 1 to November 30. Easier to get a kayak, but watch the forecast and keep your plans flexible. Text us if weather moves things around.

One extra note on multi-day stays. If you are booking a week, the 3 to 7 day tier is a flat price, so booking early for a long stay also locks in the best per-day value. You can see all the numbers in our Cape Coral kayak rental prices guide.

Step-by-step booking

There are two ways to reserve, and both take a couple of minutes. Pick the one you prefer.

Option 1: The online rental request form

The form is on our homepage rental request section. Fill in your details and we will get back to you to confirm availability. It works well if you are planning ahead from home and want to put everything in writing.

Option 2: Call or text (605) 760-4448

If you would rather talk, call. If you would rather type, text. Texting is also the fastest way to check on same-day or last-minute availability. I answer these myself or my team does, and you will get a plain answer, not a form letter.

What to send us

Whichever route you take, these are the details that let us confirm your rental quickly:

  1. Which kayak you want. Single, tandem, fishing, single pedal or tandem pedal. If you are not sure, tell us who is paddling and what you want to do, and we will point you to the right one. Our guide to choosing a kayak helps too.
  2. How many kayaks and how many paddlers. Include a rough idea of adult and child paddlers. Individual paddlers should generally be 250 lb or less, and capacity varies by kayak, so mention it if anyone is near that figure.
  3. Your dates. Start day and end day. Remember that 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 days all cost the same, so if you are on the edge between two lengths, tell us.
  4. The delivery address. The full street address of the home, Airbnb, VRBO or condo where you are staying.
  5. What the water access looks like. A private dock, a seawall, or secure storage for a condo. A photo or a short description is perfect.
  6. A mobile number you will answer. We use it for delivery coordination.

That is it. We reply to confirm the kayaks are available for those dates and the address is in our delivery area. You do not need to pay anything online to submit a request. Payment happens at delivery or pickup.

If something does not fit the standard answer

Some things we do not set in stone ahead of time, such as a deposit, timing windows for delivery or specific terms for changes. If any of those matter to you, ask us in your message. We will confirm in writing so there are no surprises.

Where we deliver

This is the service area as it stands today:

Area Delivery
Cape Coral, including ZIP codes 33904, 33909, 33914, 33990, 33991 and 33993 Free delivery and pickup
Fort Myers (most addresses) Free delivery and pickup
Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach $60 delivery fee
Matlacha and Bokeelia (Pine Island) By confirmed arrangement
Other Southwest Florida areas By arrangement

A few notes on what that means in practice.

Cape Coral. This is home base. The city is built on a grid of canals, so a huge share of homes sit on freshwater or saltwater canals with seawalls. From Cape Harbour and the Yacht Club area to the northwest Cape and Burnt Store, we deliver throughout the city at no charge. If you want to learn how those canals connect to the river and the Gulf, our Cape Coral canals guide explains it.

Fort Myers. Most addresses are covered at no charge. The Fort Myers kayak rentals page lists what is practical on the river side of town. Text us your address if it is on the edge.

Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach. We deliver there with a $60 delivery fee. The Sanibel Causeway, a three-mile crossing over San Carlos Bay, is part of why the island run takes more time. For paddling ideas there, see kayaking Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach.

Matlacha and Bokeelia. Pine Island is on the other side of the Matlacha Pass bridge, which locals call “the fishingest bridge in the world,” so we confirm those deliveries one by one. Read the Matlacha kayak rental page and the Bokeelia kayak rental page, then text us your address.

What kinds of places we deliver to

  • Waterfront homes with a private dock or seawall
  • Airbnbs, VRBOs and other vacation rentals with water access
  • Vacation homes
  • Condos with suitable, secure storage
  • Hotels, case by case. Ask first.

If you are staying in a vacation rental, our guide on renting kayaks for your Cape Coral Airbnb or VRBO goes through the details, and the vacation rental kayak page covers how delivery to short-term rentals works. Hosts who want to offer kayaks to every guest can read kayaks as a vacation rental amenity.

The dock, seawall and storage check

This is the single most useful thing to think about before you book. The whole idea of a delivered kayak is that you launch from where you are staying, so the property has to work for it.

When you send us your address, here is what we are quietly checking, and what you can check yourself:

  • Is there somewhere safe to get in and out? A floating or fixed dock is easiest. A seawall works too, but the height above the water changes with the tide, so it can be a bigger step down at low tide. Our guide to getting in and out of a kayak from a dock or seawall explains the technique.
  • Where will the kayak sit between paddles? On the dock tied off, on the grass beside the seawall, or in a secure storage area for condos. A kayak left on a dock should be tied off so a gust or a wake does not move it.
  • Can we get to the launch spot? A gate, a side yard or a walkway should be reachable on foot while carrying a kayak.
  • Is the water useful? Some canals lead to open water quickly, some are small dead ends, and a few are freshwater. Both are fine for a relaxed paddle. If you want to reach the Caloosahatchee River or Matlacha Pass, ask us about your canal.

If you are not sure what you have, send a photo. I would rather look at a picture before delivery day than guess.

Tell us your dock and your dates

Free delivery to your Cape Coral or Fort Myers dock, prices from $45/day, and pickup is included. Send the kayak, the dates and the address, and we will confirm.

What happens on delivery day

Here is the typical flow. We do not publish a fixed delivery time window, so we agree on timing with you in advance and text when we are on the way.

  1. We arrive with the kayaks. They come rigged and ready, with the paddles, life vests, dry bag and safety whistle.
  2. We walk to the launch spot with you. Dock, seawall or storage area, we look at it together and decide where the kayaks should sit.
  3. We set up the gear. Each paddler gets a life vest, adjusted to fit. We check paddle length and show you how to hold the paddle so the blades face the right way.
  4. A quick walkthrough. We cover how to get in and out from your particular dock or seawall, basic steering, how to stay close to the shoreline and what to do if conditions change.
  5. Pedal kayak demo. If you rented a pedal kayak, we show you the pedal drive, forward and reverse, and the rudder steering. The Malibu PDL, for example, pedals both ways and steers with a rudder, so it takes a couple of minutes to feel natural.
  6. Payment, if you are paying at delivery. Major credit cards, cash and Venmo. A cash discount is available.
  7. You paddle. The kayak is yours for the rental period.

No prior kayaking experience is required. A lot of our guests have never been in a kayak before. The walkthrough is short because the canals are forgiving, and you set your own pace.

If this is your first time, read our first-time kayaker’s guide to renting in Cape Coral before the day. It covers what to wear, what to bring and how to plan a first paddle.

During your rental

Where the kayak lives between paddles

Keep it somewhere secure and out of the way, ideally on the dock or beside the seawall, tied off or pulled up and clear of the water’s edge. Do not leave it where a wake or a rising tide can push it around. If you are in a condo, use the secure storage area we set up with you at delivery.

What you do each time you go out

  • Put on your life vest before you step into the kayak. Florida has rules on life jackets for paddlers, and our Florida kayak laws guide goes through them. The U.S. Coast Guard also has a good page on wearing your life jacket.
  • Check the wind and the forecast. The National Weather Service office for the area is NWS Tampa Bay.
  • Check the tide if you are heading toward open water. NOAA Tides and Currents has predictions for the area.
  • Tell someone where you are going and when you expect to be back.
  • Take the dry bag with your phone.

Can I extend my rental?

Maybe, depending on availability. If you are having a good time and want to keep the kayak longer, text us as early as you can. We will check the schedule and tell you what is possible and what the price would be. Because the 3 to 7 day tier is a flat price, extending within that range usually does not change the total, but text us so we can confirm.

What if something breaks or goes wrong?

Call or text (605) 760-4448 right away. Do not try to fix a pedal drive or a rudder yourself. We would rather sort it out with you than have you struggle.

Weather and changing plans

Southwest Florida weather can change fast, and it should change your plans. In winter, cold fronts bring north and northwest wind, which can build a chop on the open water of the Caloosahatchee River, even when the sky is clear. In summer, afternoon thunderstorms roll in off the interior, and the safe window is usually the morning. In hurricane season, which runs June 1 to November 30, keep an eye on the National Hurricane Center.

If the forecast looks bad for your delivery day or your paddle day, text us. We will work with you. We do not have a formal rescheduling policy to quote in a blog post, and I would rather talk to you about your situation than hide behind fine print. The same goes if your travel plans shift. The right thing to do is message early.

For a deeper look at reading the water, see wind, tides and weather in Cape Coral, and our Cape Coral kayak safety guide.

Pickup and payment

Pickup

Pickup is included. At the end of your rental, we come back to the same dock, seawall or storage area. Leave the kayaks, paddles, vests, dry bag and whistle together near the launch spot, rinsed if you can, and we take it from there. We confirm the pickup time with you ahead of time.

Before pickup, bring the kayaks out of the water and put the gear in one spot. If you head out of town early, tell us where to find everything.

Payment

You pay at delivery or pickup. We take major credit cards, cash and Venmo, and there is a cash discount. The posted prices include applicable taxes. For the full breakdown for every kayak, including per-day math, see the Cape Coral kayak rental prices guide.

What we do not do

It helps to be plain about this, so nobody shows up expecting something we do not offer.

  • We do not deliver to public parks or boat ramps. The City of Cape Coral and Lee County asked rental companies to keep operations off park property, and we follow that. Sirenia Vista Park is specifically off limits for our deliveries. A kayak handoff at a park or ramp is not something we do.
  • We have no onsite paddling. There is no storefront, no ramp where you walk up and rent, and no staffed launch.
  • We do not run guided tours and we do not have clear-bottom kayaks.
  • We do not rent boats or jet skis ourselves. Our boat rentals, jet ski rentals and fishing charters pages point to partner bookings, which are separate from our fleet.

If you want to paddle somewhere else

You can move a delivered kayak to another appropriate launch if you have a safe way to transport it, such as a roof rack or a truck bed. That is your call and your transport. Here are a few Cape Coral launch points listed by the City of Cape Coral, with notes for paddlers who want to drive their delivered kayak there themselves. This is not a delivery or handoff location.

Horton Park Boat Ramp

Where: 2600 SE 26th Place, Cape Coral, FL 33904, at the end of Everest Parkway. Water: saltwater, Everest Canal into the Caloosahatchee River south of the Midpoint Memorial Bridge. Best for: experienced paddlers who want river paddling. Getting there with your kayak: drive your own kayak to the park. Parking at city launch sites is free unless you are using a boat trailer.

Yacht Club Boat Ramp

Where: Yacht Club area of Cape Coral, on the Caloosahatchee River. Water: Redfish Cove, saltwater. Best for: river views and a short paddle close to the Yacht Club Community Park. Getting there with your kayak: drive your own kayak; check the city parks page for current rules and hours.

Burnt Store Boat Ramp

Where: Burnt Store area, northwest Cape Coral. Water: Rosemary Canal, saltwater, leading to Matlacha Pass. Best for: experienced paddlers heading toward the Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve. Getting there with your kayak: drive your own kayak; conditions in the Pass depend heavily on wind and tide.

Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve

Where: Along the Caloosahatchee River in Cape Coral; the city lists it as a kayak launch site. Water: mangrove creeks and Four Mile Cove. Best for: a mangrove paddle and wildlife. Getting there with your kayak: drive your own kayak. The city also runs a seasonal kayak program here, separate from us. See our Four Mile Cove guide.

The City of Cape Coral kayaking page lists each launch and its water. For more places to paddle, see our pillar guide on the best places to kayak in Cape Coral, and for ideas without spending anything, the free things to do page.

Frequently asked questions

Do you need a reservation for a kayak rental in Cape Coral?

For our delivery rentals, reserving ahead is the best approach, especially for weekends and busy season. Last-minute availability is sometimes possible, so if you need a kayak soon, text (605) 760-4448. We do not run a walk-up storefront, so the kayak needs to be scheduled before it comes to your dock.

How do I book a kayak rental?

Fill in the rental request form on our homepage or call or text (605) 760-4448. Send us the kayak you want, your dates and the delivery address. We confirm availability and agree on delivery timing. You pay at delivery or pickup, not when you submit the request.

Where can I rent kayaks in Cape Coral?

We deliver kayaks to waterfront homes, Airbnbs, VRBOs and condos with suitable storage in Cape Coral and most of Fort Myers. Other options in the area include a seasonal city program at Four Mile Cove Ecological Preserve and marina-based hourly rentals. Check with those operators for their hours and rates.

Do you deliver kayaks to a park or boat ramp?

No. We do not deliver to public parks or boat ramps. The City of Cape Coral and Lee County asked rental companies to keep operations off park property. We deliver to private docks and seawalls, Airbnbs, VRBOs, vacation homes and condos with secure storage. Hotels are case by case.

Do I need to be home for the kayak delivery?

Be there for the walkthrough, or make sure someone is. We fit life vests, show you the gear and agree where the kayaks will sit. Text us about timing and access. If you cannot be there, tell us ahead of time and we will talk through what works.

Is kayak delivery really free?

Yes, in Cape Coral and at most Fort Myers addresses, delivery and pickup are free. Sanibel, Captiva and Fort Myers Beach have a $60 delivery fee. Matlacha and Bokeelia are by confirmed arrangement. Other Southwest Florida areas are by arrangement, so text us your address.

What if it rains or the weather turns bad?

Text us. We will work with you. Southwest Florida has afternoon storms in summer and wind from cold fronts in winter, so we would rather talk through the plan than have you paddle in poor conditions. Check NWS Tampa Bay before you head out.

Can I extend my kayak rental?

Often, depending on availability. Text us as early as you can with the new end date, and we will check the schedule and confirm the price. Because the 3 to 7 day tier is one flat price, a longer stay inside that range may not change your total.

How do I pay for the rental?

You pay at delivery or pickup. We accept major credit cards, cash and Venmo, and a cash discount is available. Prices already include applicable taxes. See the full rate card in our kayak rental prices guide.

What do I get with the kayak?

Each rental includes the kayak, paddle or paddles, a life vest for every paddler, a dry bag and a safety whistle. Pedal kayaks include the pedal drive. We deliver, show you the gear and pick everything up, so you do not need a roof rack.

Can I take the kayak to a different launch?

Yes, if you can transport it safely, such as on a roof rack or in a truck. We deliver only to private docks and seawalls, but once you have the kayak, you can move it to another appropriate launch. Check the rules at that location first.

Book your kayak for your dock

Pick your kayak, your dates and your address, and we will do the rest. Delivery is free in Cape Coral and most of Fort Myers, pickup is included, and you pay at delivery or pickup. Last-minute? Text us.
